Cannabinoids 101

Hemp (Cannabis) Extract

What is it, and where does it come from?

Hemp extract is the final product that is derived from the sticky, oily resin produced by the trichomes on the unfertilized female flower of the Cannabis plant. This sticky resin grows on the same flower which would be be consumed by recreational and medical marijuana users alike. In fact, the flower used to make our hemp extract looks, tastes, smells and feels just like a typical marijuana plant flower!

Characteristics
of quality cannabis (hemp) extract

Within the hemp extract, there are close to 100 unique cannabinoids. One of those cannabinoids has become very popular and is known as CBD (cannabidiol). When making our tinctures, we have the option of using a formulation that is made from the entire hemp extract (aka full-spectrum extract), some of the hemp extract (aka broad-spectrum extract) or a single isolated cannabinoid (aka isolate) from the hemp extract. Given these 3 options, not all “CBD” oils are the same. You must be very careful when choosing to purchase a product because your outcome will likely vary greatly between these 3 different formulations. The last thing you would want to do is prematurely conclude that “CBD oil” didn’t work for you when a different formulation might have done the trick.

Therefore, Restoration Hemp CBD tinctures are made from the entire hemp extract (we are a full-spectrum extract) because we believe there are properties in the extract that, when taken together, produce a better result for the end user.  This better result has become known as “the entourage effect,” an effect that Walt was able to experience first-hand when trying to find a CBD oil that worked best for him. If you’d like to read more about Walt’s journey of finding healing with CBD oil (hemp extract to be exact), you can do so at waltsstory.com.

FAQ's

What's the difference between legal hemp flowers and illegal (in most states) Marijuana flowers?

By law, the hemp flowers used to make our extracts can only contain trace amounts (< 0.3%) of the psychoactive compound known as delta-9 THC, the cannabinoid responsible for the “high” people get from smoking or ingesting marijuana. This extremely low allowable threshold of delta-9 THC eliminates any possibility of getting “high” from using our extracts, no matter how much is taken. Conversely, a typical marijuana flower may have upwards of 15% to 30% or more of the THC compound in its cannabinoids.

If our hemp flowers only contain a minimal amount of the THC cannabinoid, what do they have that makes them so beneficial?

A second cannabinoid found in the hemp plant is called Cannabidiol, often referred to as CBD and it is this compound that is being studied and investigated for its beneficial healing / medicinal properties in relation to the Endocannabinoid Receptor System in our bodies. All of the plants we grow and process for the production of our extracts are low in THC and high in CBD content. As a matter of fact, our plants are tested in advance of us being able to harvest any flowers from them and if they exceed the legal limit of THC (0.3%), they are destroyed and we are precluded from using them in the production of our extracts.

Our objective is to grow hemp plants with flowers laden with CBD-rich trichomes, producing lots of sticky resin

Once they have done so, we harvest the flowers, extract the cannabinoids and process them into a bottled tincture for your use. All of our hemp is either grown by us or by farmers who ascribe to our growing practices so we can say with 100% confidence that no chemicals were ever sprayed on our flowers. We believe that our food shouldn’t contain unwanted toxic chemicals, and neither should our extracts.
